The original ARMAAN app was designed by the Indian Army to provide information and communicate with army personnel. Among its functions, ARMAAN lets users send messages to the office of the Chief Army Staff.
The cloned ARMAAN app poses a huge threat to the Indian Army and its personnel. The malware is capable of performing RAT activities and stealing sensitive data, including audio and videos, from the mobile phone of an army personnel. This is because the app requires service members to enter their Aadhaar number to access their information. In addition to that, the fake app allows access to the camera and microphone on the device. Moreover, it can access call data and even reveal a person’s location. Cyble, the developer of the cloned ARMAAN application, claims that their app requests only 10 permissions to access the user’s data.
