Philadelphia Stars
In the 1980s, the Philadelphia Stars won two championships. Although the current NFL is not affiliated with the USFL, the Philadelphia team retained the USFL name and color scheme. The championship game between the Philadelphia Stars and Birmingham Stallions is on Sunday, July 3. The Philadelphia Stars will face the Birmingham Stallions at 7:30 PM ET. The game will air live on Fox. The Stars and Stallions have played twice this season, with the Stallions winning the last meeting 30-17. The play is a big play for the Stallions, as the wideout makes a nice juke on the play. Later, Kyle Sloter gets hit in the pocket, resulting in a fumble and the Stallions are forced to punt. Fortunately, the Stallions have a solid return game. Victor Bolden Jr. broke a kickoff return to the right and returned it to the Stallions’ 48-yard line. The Stallions are now in great field position.
In the fourth quarter, the Stars are down to their last chance to score a touchdown. After failing to convert on third down, a turnover in the backfield by Cookus leaves the Stars with a fourth-and-12 possession. The Stars have two timeouts to get into position to try an onside kick, and if they can convert this fourth down play, they will have a shot at a game-winning drive. However, the Stallions can stop the Stars in great field position and claim the victory.
Houston Texans
In a bid to fill the void left by the NFL offseason, the USFL is preparing to begin its inaugural season this Sunday. Four former Texans have been drafted into the league, though most only had brief stints with the team. As a result, there are some questions about the USFL’s future.
The USFL has four games each week. There are six regular-season teams and one playoff team. The first half of the regular season includes interdivisional play. The playoffs kick off in Canton, Ohio, while the regular season continues in Birmingham, Alabama.
In today’s USFL games, the Houston Texans will be without running back J.R. Sweezy, a former USFL star, is expected to start at tight end. However, the Texans have a number of other backs on their roster. The Texans’ current running backs are Marlon Mack, Damel Pierce, and Rex Burkhead.
